NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin man has been arrested after allegedly planning to murder someone in Nacogdoches.
Police arrested Jessie Dale Cashion, 44, on Sunday after a concerned individual called authorities and said they knew Cashion was planning to murder another person. Officers responded to a “possible in-progress murder plot” taking place at a Nacogdoches law firm at about 9:40 a.m., according to a report.
Cashion was found at the scene with a gun, and the victim was meant to arrive shortly after, according to Nacogdoches Police PIO Brett Ayres. Ayres said preliminary investigation indicates the two had some previous business dealings between them.
Cashion was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail, and the jail record shows he faces a charge of murder. After a case in which the intended victim similarly survived in Smith County, the sheriff’s office clarified that under Chapter 15 of the Texas Penal Code, a preparatory offense that is one step short of the actual criminal offense of murder (a first-degree felony) is a second-degree felony under the same umbrella.
Ayres said police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time.
