Louisiana State Police says scammers calling Louisiana residents

It’s an old scam, but Louisiana State Police say lately it’s been hitting their state quite frequently. Troopers say scammers are calling people, and the number that shows up on their caller ID or cell phone shows to be an actual Louisiana State Police phone number. It’s called “spoofing”, and it works by scammers using a computer to make their telephone number a different number than it actually is. Troopers say the scam callers are identifying themselves as being with Louisiana State Police, and then trying to obtain personal information, and especially money from their intended victim. Louisiana State Police say never give your personal information or send money to someone who calls you on the phone. Instead, hang up and call your local Louisiana State Police office or your local law enforcement agency.
