Local police hit stores accused of selling smokes or vapes to minors

The Jasper Police Department performed a so called "Sting Operation" on Friday in which they sent underaged youth into local businesses to try to purchase vapes and tobacco and Interim Police Chief Mike Poindexter said  citations were issued after the youth allegedly purchased items. Poindexter said that in all a total of 6 businesses were hit and that 7 citations resulted from the incidents with one the employees of a store being issued 2 citations. Poindexter said he and others want everyone to know that selling tobacco or vape products to underaged smokers would not be allowed and that the laws were going to be enforced. Poindexter said that under circumstances, seeing the restricted products to underaged customers was a Class C Misdemeanor under State Law.
