Lightning strike sparks house fire in Angelina County

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A lightning strike sparked a fire that destroyed the roof of a home in Angelina County Saturday.

According to the City of Huntington Volunteer Fire Department, around 11:37 p.m. they assisted the Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department with a house fire on Massey Road just off of FM 1270.

According to the HVFD, the fire started from a lightning strike, burning a hole in the side of the attic space. Strong winds blew through the hole, further fueling the fire. The HVFD say they attempted to fight the fire on the inside of the house but the wind caused the fire to spread faster than they could catch.

According to the fire department, they spent four hours fighting the fire. The walls of the house remained standing but the roof collapsed and most items inside were destroyed.

Angelina River Fire And Rescue and the Colmesneil Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene.

No injuries were reported from the fire have been reported.
