LEESVILLE, La. (KALB) - KALB has learned that City of Leesville Police Department Chief Amanda Westmoreland is stepping down after just over four months in office, as confirmed by the City of Leesville on Wednesday, June 3.
Mayor Rick Allen released the following statement on Wednesday:
“I’ve never met anyone with a bigger heart than Amanda Westmorland. Her love for people is what I believe God expects from all of us.
The impact she made in her short term as Chief will stand the test of time.
She will be missed."

Westmoreland was sworn in as the city’s new chief of police on January 12, following the retirement of Chief Beth Westlake.
In February, Chief Westmoreland spoke with KALB about the new role, saying that she was settling into things while also planning drastic changes for the Leesville Police Department.
“To be chief is an honor. Not everybody gets to be chief, and there is a lot of people who deserve it. But unfortunately, only one gets it at a time. So, it’s an honor.”
