LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles couple is behind bars after one person raped a young child for several years and the other failed to report it, deputies said.
Deputies responded to a hospital Wednesday after a child had been raped, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said. The victim said Drew Junior Segobia, 40, had been raping and sexually assaulting her since around 2020.
The victim told Segobia’s girlfriend, Linda Beth Gershenson, 62, about the abuse around a year ago, and she failed to report it, Vincent said. Gershenson also continued to allow Segobia to live in her home.
Segobia was arrested on charges of first-degree rape and sexual battery of a victim under 13. Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $2.25 million.
Gershenson is charged with failure to report the commission of certain felonies. Judge Tony Fazzio set her bond at $150,000.
