A Lake Charles man has been arrested after being accused of the attempted murder of a police officer, according to the Lake Charles Police Department.
Lieutenant Brenda Treadway says officers were dispatched to 9th Street between 4th and 3rd Ave. after receiving a complaint about a person threatening others with a weapon around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 18.
When they arrived, officers say they found Justin Jamar Duncan, 37, on the front porch of the residence with a firearm. After arriving, they say Duncan began verbally threatening the officers before going inside the home. They say he then began firing his weapon out a window in their direction.
Officers set up a perimeter around the residence, and after some time, Duncan fled out the rear door but was quickly caught by the officers.
The firearm that Duncan used was found inside the home.
Duncan was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Facility for:
- Attempted first-degree murder of a police officer
- Possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a felony
- Illegal use of a dangerous weapon
- Aggravated property damage
Judge Tony Fazzio set Duncan’s bond at $900,000.00
