NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) - The Natchitoches Fire Department responded to a house fire on Friday, April 5 in the 400 block of Gibson Street. A good Samaritan called 911 after noticing smoke coming from the home and banged on the door to alert any residents. After responding, firefighters discovered the body of the 72-year-old homeowner in a hallway. Officials say the fire began in the kitchen due to an unattended hot plate. State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J. Adams urges people to follow these safety tips:
- Keep cooking equipment in eyesight when you’re using it, especially if there’s an open flame.
- Keep clutter and combustible items away from cooking areas.
- Don’t cook when you’re tired, distracted, or impaired.
