A crash near Kountze claimed the life of a Silsbee man late Sunday night. It happened shortly before 11:00 on Farm to Market Road 418. The Texas Department of Public Safety says 41-year-old Demarcus Gilder was driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the highway, through a ditch, and then a utility pole guide wire and a fence which sent the vehicle rolling over several times. Gilder was pronounced dead at the scene.
