Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to Brookshire Brothers in Kirbyville Thursday afternoon after an electrical outlet shorted out and caused smoke inside the store.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. in the back storage room area. According to Kirbyville Fire Chief Greg Ellis, wires connected to the outlet burned after the initial spark, but the fire burned itself out before spreading.
Firefighters still made a thorough check of the building to make sure there was no active fire or hidden danger. Crews inspected the back storage area and also went onto the roof to check the unit above the store.
The incident did not cause any major disruption to business. Shoppers were still able to enter and leave the building while firefighters handled the call.
