KEITHVILLE, La. - A 13-year-old girl is safe and a man is in custody after an Amber Alert led police to find them in Texas, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office.
Merlin Argueta was reported missing from Keithville Thursday. Caddo Parish detectives worked with Texas authorities to issue an Amber Alert, which quickly generated tips about a vehicle used in the disappearance.
Officers with the Allen Police Department made contact with Arlin Hernandez Dubon, who allegedly told investigators he drove the suspect, Daniel Osman Vasquez Mejia, 18, to the residence where Argueta was taken without parental consent.
Mejia was arrested in Texas and charged with harboring a runaway. In Louisiana, a judge signed a warrant charging him with simple kidnapping.
The teenager is currently being cared for by Texas Child Protective Services while she waits to be reunited with her family.
Police are still investigating to see if any other crimes were committed while the girl was missing.
