JPD says more people paid fines than arrested in warrant roundup

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Jasper Police Captain Mike Poindexter says the department is very pleased with the results of a warrant roundup during the first week in April. In fact, Poindexter says more people took care of their unfinished business with the Jasper Municipal Court than were actually arrested. Poindexter says publicizing the intended warrant roundup on KJAS News was very effective in stirring up those who needed to get squared away with the court. According to Poindexter, over $30,000.00 in fines and restitution was collected by the court in the days leading up to the roundup, and then when officers actually started the operation, there were only about a dozen warrants still active.
