Jasper’s newest apartment complex, the Maple Court Apartments on Rosewood Drive at Highway 190 West, held their grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday with local officials and the Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce.
The complex, which is managed by Pam Utley, is a project of the Texas General Land Office and is intended to replace affordable housing in this area that was damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
On hand Wednesday was Brittany Eck, who is from the Community Development & Revitalization Division of the Texas General Land Office. Eck explained that the $15.4 million apartment complex was built using a portion of $586 million in federal disaster recovery funds from the Department of Housing & Urban Development, and was earmarked specifically for replenishment along the Texas Gulf Coast.
According to Eck, the complex has 104 apartment units, 25% of which is set at market rate, while 75% of the complex is for those with low to medium income.
