Jasper Police take man into custody following alleged hostage situation

Jasper police officers used a Taser to take a man into custody after he allegedly held a family member hostage at gunpoint, according to information from Chief Garrett Foster.

"To dispel any rumors that may be circulating, officers responded this morning to a report of a suspect armed with a firearm who was allegedly holding a family member hostage," said Foster in a statement. "During the incident, officers deployed a Taser to safely resolve the situation. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail. No one was shot, and no officers or citizens were injured. We appreciate the community’s patience and continued support as we work to keep everyone safe."

Reports are that the incident occurred at the new apartment complex on South Bowie Street, near the campus of Jasper High School. However a complete report regarding the names of the alleged victims or the suspect in the case.
