Jasper Police investigating the discovery of a body

Jasper Police are investigating the discovery of a body near the Walmart Store on West Gibson Street. Officers were called to the location shortly after 3:00 on Thursday afternoon, when it was reported that the body was discovered in a wooded area, located between Walmart and Lee Nails in the 718 block of West Gibson. Officers have not released any information at this time as they try to determine the identity of the individual and what caused his death. However, Captain Mike Poindexter said that so far, there was no sign of foul play. The discovery was apparently made by someone who was walking in the area. Captain Mike Poindexter said late Thursday afternoon that the identity of the man is not known, and there is no evidence of foul play. Investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy before releasing any additional information.
