A deputy seeing a vehicle driving erratically has reportedly resulted in the arrest of three suspects.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said the deputy was patrolling on Reese Road between Buna and Evadale at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, when he saw a driver traveling erratically. Havard said the officer stopped the driver, identified as Landon Marceaux, 17, of Lumberton. However, there were three other teens in the car, including Cannon West, 18, of Beaumont, Bland Wilson, 17, of Lumberton, and a 15-year-old juvenile.
Havard said that while speaking with the driver, the deputy developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, the deputy found several handguns, one of which was confirmed stolen out of Hardin County. The deputy also discovered items that may be connected to other crimes.
Based on the deputy's discovery, Marceaux was charged with Theft of a Firearm, a State Jail Felony, while West, Wilson, and the juvenile were all charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor. The three older teens were placed in the Jasper County Jail while the juvenile was transported to the Hardin County Juvenile Detention Facility. They may face additional charges.
Havard says his office is committed to combating criminal activity in Jasper County. Sheriff Havard wants to thank JCSO employees for being vigilant and patrolling the neighborhoods of Jasper County.
