JASPER COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - County roads 517, 535, and FM 252 at CR 494 were closed Sunday afternoon due to a wildfire burning in the area. The sheriff’s office said County roads 517 and 535 had been closed as of about 2:40 p.m. while emergency responders worked to contain a wildfire. The Texas A&M Forest Service reported that the fire was burning 30 acres with 0% containment as of 3:30 p.m. As of 5 p.m., FM 252 was also closed at CR 494. All roads were re-opened as of 6 p.m., but the forest service database did not yet show an update on the status of the fire. No evacuations have been ordered, but authorities have asked all non-emergency traffic to avoid the area. Fire departments across East Texas have asked residents to avoid all outdoor burning due to dry, windy conditions that create a heightened risk for wildfires to start and spread.
