JASPER, Texas (KTRE) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have arrested a fugitive after he tried to elude them on Tuesday afternoon.
On January 20 at approximately 1 p.m., two deputies were on patrol in the 2600 block of U.S. 96 near Call. One of the deputies spotted Briar Brister, 21, of Buna, standing in a driveway. The deputy knew Brister to be a fugitive from justice but by the time the deputies could stop, Brister had run into the woods, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputies entered the woods and called out to Brister by name while announcing themselves. Brister then ran out of the woods evading the deputies on foot and attempted to get into a truck that was leaving the property.
Deputies were able to take Brister into custody without further incident. Brister was taken to the Jasper County Jail on two warrants, motion to revoke probation -Theft of Firearm and MTRP Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Brister was also charged with Evading Arrest or Detention- Class A Misdemeanor, the sheriff’s office added.
