Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle announced on Wednesday that she has decided not to seek re-election.
Pickle, who is in the third year of her four year term, said she had decided not to sign up as a candidate in the primary election this coming year and instead move to the Texas Hill Country to pursue a career there.
Pickle gave no specific reason for her decision but said it was something she had wanted to do for some time because she had once lived in the Austin-San Antonio Area and liked living there.
Also on Wednesday, John Burt of Buna, who currently serves as an assistant to Newton County District Attorney Tracy Ponthier, announced that he would be seeking the position.
