Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Jasper County Grand Jury has indicted a Kirbyville man for the March 25th, 2023 murder of Chase Butler. Jadarian Ra’Joan Lee, 25, is accused of shooting the 21-year-old Butler in the head at Butler’s home on County Road 420, just outside of Kirbyville.

Butler, who was a father of two, died the following day in a Beaumont hospital.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan said at the time that the shooting occurred after a disturbance broke out between the two over a woman.

According to Duncan, Lee had been staying in the Gateway Motel in Kirbyville, and his arrest came when he was found in a unit at the Pecan Grove Apartments.

Lee was also indicted by the Grand Jury on an April 2023 charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and an April 2022 charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

An indictment by the Grand Jury does not mean that the person named in the indictment is guilty of any crime. It simply indicates that Grand Jurors felt that enough evidence exists to merit a trial.
