Investigators seek driver in fatal Lufkin hit-and-run involving cyclist

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Investigators are searching for the driver in a fatal Lufkin hit-and-run involving a cyclist on June 7. According to a release from Crime Stoppers, the cyclist, later identified as Darryl Thorton, was struck around 10:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Timberland Drive. Thorton was in the outside northbound lane near the railroad crossing, the post said, and was hit from behind. The driver fled and Thorton was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the post, the vehicle likely has damage to the front end after the crash, and possibly has blue paint from the bicycle as well. There may be damage to the hood and windshield as well.
