LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - Officials are still investigating a recent fire that destroyed some heavy equipment last Thursday, taking some hard earned and essential items away from an East Texas man. Fire units were called to Johnson Street in Longview where several large pieces of equipment were burning. “Our crews arrived and found that there was a travel trailer and some other farm equipment that had been involved in the fire,” said Longview Fire Marshal Kevin May. The property belonged to Ulysses Johnson, well known in Longview for his connection with horses and the Juneteenth parade. The fire destroyed essential items he used for work and helping out in the community. “Tractors burnt up, brush hog, my wood splitters burnt up,” Johnson said. “My trailer, boat motor and my flatbed that I work with- burnt it all up.” Johnson says the loss of the RV was particularly tough as he used it to hold fish fries supporting various causes, including the fire department and tailgate parties for Longview High School. “I try to keep everybody safe, look out for everybody’s stuff, but this here is the bottom of it,” Johnson said. He questions how any of it could have spontaneously started burning, saying he doesn’t think it could be an accident. “Show them to me,” Johnson said. Longview fire said they are still investigating the incident. “We don’t have enough information to determine exactly what caused the fire,” May said. Johnson says most of the equipment that burned is completely lost.
