Hemphill Mayor says truck traffic will not be eliminated in downtown

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Hemphill Mayor Stephen Croswell has released a statement to address a rumor that big truck traffic will be eliminated through the downtown area. Croswell said “This has not been a city council agenda item and has not been deliberated by the council.” Croswell went on to say “I believe we all see the need for a better route through Hemphill, however, at this time there is no other option than the current route.” Sabine County, just like other counties in Deep East Texas, has a large timber industry and log trucks and chip trucks are a common sight every day. Croswell also acknowledged the concerns of residents and business owners. He said “We receive numerous complaints from individuals and businesses about the truck traffic through downtown and will continue to look for a better solution.”
