Former Jasper officer John Dees pleads guilty in another child sex crime case

A former law enforcement officer who is currently serving prison time for multiple child sex crimes pleaded guilty in another such case on Monday. Tyler County District Attorney Lucas Babin says John Dees, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of Indecency with a Child by Exposure. Babin said it was plea deal worked out between the prosecution and defense, and Dees received a 5 year prison sentence which will run concurrent with his prison sentence from previous child sex crime convictions in Jasper and Orange Counties. Babin said the victim in the Tyler County case was the same victim from the Orange County case. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Dees is being held in the Ellis Prison Unit in Huntsville. His sentences run until March of 2029, and his first eligibility for parole will be in March of 2026. From his early 20’s until about a decade ago, Dees worked at the Jasper Police Department, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Departments, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. That ended in 2011 when the first of several child sex cases surfaced.
