KTRE 9 News in Lufkin is reporting that Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches has banned a Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper from the county jail, and according to an email from the sheriff to a DPS captain and obtained by KTRE, it is “due to his continuous negativity about the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office and our jail.”
The trooper is Travis Richnow, who was formerly stationed in Jasper County.
Sheriff Sanches, who himself is a retired state trooper, is accusing Richnow of posting negative comments about the Angelina County Sheriff’s Department & Jail on a private Facebook group named “Angelina County Trash Talk”.
KTRE’s report said that the email, which was sent to DPS Captain Michell McDaniel, informs the state agency that the Angelina County Jail will no longer accept arrests made by Richnow, and he is not allowed on any sheriff’s department property.
KJAS archives show that Trooper Richnow worked in this area from at least 2004 until 2010.
