Former cop John Dees remains in county jail awaiting transfer to state prison

Although he was sentenced to 5 years in state prison for child sex crimes on Tuesday of last week, former cop John Dees remained in the Jasper County Jail as of Monday. Meanwhile, Sheriff Mitchel Newman says he's been on the phone with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice trying to find out what the hold-up is and when they plan to pick up the inmate and transport him to prison. Newman said Dees, age 46, is being held in a cell with eleven other sex offenders, and so far he has not caused any issues with his cellmates or jail staff. Dees had been on probation following conviction for one of the child sex crimes, but Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle said he broke probation when he committed yet another child sex crime. That resulted in his probation being revoked and the 5 year prison sentence being imposed. Dees still faces other child sex crime charges in other surrounding counties. From his early 20's until about a decade ago, Dees worked at the Jasper Police Department, the Jasper County Sheriff's Departments, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. That ended in 2011 when the first of several child sex cases surfaced.
