"I don't know how many people I've seen today, I've lost count." Those were the words of Physicians Assistant Sharon Byley at Fairmount Family Practice on Monday afternoon. Byley says there's been a big influenza outbreak in Sabine County in recent days. There was a steady stream of vehicles lined up at the small clinic in the Fairmount Community, and Byley along with two staff members were seeing patients on a drive-thru basis. Byley and the staffers were assessing patients as they sat in their vehicles, along with administering shots of various medications based upon each patient's symptoms. Meanwhile, as of Monday there was no reports of the flu causing any disruptions at the two school districts in Sabine County.
