CARENCRO, La. (KPLC) - A Florida man is in custody after multiple explosive devices and guns were seized in Carencro, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Orlando Burleigh, 55, was wanted on active warrants stemming from a Florida investigation that involved firing a gun into a building and making explosive devices, LPSO spokesperson Valerie Ponseti said.
The United States Marshal Service and the ATF were looking for Burleigh, and on March 3, he was found living in a camper on Hibou Road in Carencro, Ponseti said.
Federal agents arrested Burleigh, and LPSO SWAT was called to help clear the camper, according to Ponseti. Authorities used a drone to look inside the camper and saw bomb-making materials.
The Louisiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was called to the scene and rendered the explosives safe, Ponseti said. SWAT operators then entered the trailer and found several firearms.
Burleigh was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail on the Florida warrants, along with five additional counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
