Firemen are saying a properly installed and working fire alarm and sprinkler system saved the day when small blaze broke out in the kitchen of home in the Prospect Point Apartments here in Jasper on Monday evening.
The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were in the middle of their Monday evening meeting and training session at the fire station on Water Street, when they dispatched to a sounding alarm at the Pioneer Point apartment complex located at 215 Premier Drive, behind the Lowe's Home Improvement Store.
Firemen and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene and soon went to an apartment on the rear upper floor of building 7 and opened the door to find the fire had already been extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system.
Firemen cleared the home of smoke and searched for possible hotspots.
No injuries resulted from the incident.
