Firefighters stopped a 100 acre wildfire Tuesday evening in Mt Union Community

The Tri-Community Fire Department and the Texas A&M Forest Service worked together to stop a wildfire on Tuesday. The blaze was reported shortly before 5:00pm, and firefighters worked into the night to finally get it out It happened in a hunting lease in the area of County Roads 701 and 542 in the Mount Union Community, about 5 miles west of Kirbyville. The first firefighters in the area reported problems trying to figure out how to reach the fire down the maze of county roads and trails. They also had to cut a lock on a gate to gain access into the hunting lease. Eleven Tri-Community firefighters and nine Forest Service personnel worked with three brush trucks and four bulldozers to stop the fire which grew to a maximum size of about 100 acres. The cause of the fire is unknown.
