As a trucker was headed south on Highway 96 shortly before 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon, another trucker called him on the CB radio and told him that his truck was on fire.
The driver said that after leaving Florida and driving to Magnolia Arkansas to pick up a load of large dimension lumber, he was traveling south about 4 miles north of Jasper when the incident occurred.
After trying to put out the fire with a small fire extinguisher and seeing that it was a lost cause, the driver said he was able to get back in the truck and disconnect the trailer saving the large load of lumber.
The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department soon arrived and immediately went to work trying to put out the fire that had by that point completely engulfed the rig.
The south bound lane of Highway 96, about four miles north of Jasper was blocked for some time as firemen battled the blaze but the north bound lane remained open.
There is no word on what caused the fire that destroyed the truck, which was owned by Rayburn Truck Lines of Jayess, Mississippi.
