A fire that broke out shortly after 3:00 on Saturday afternoon quickly moved through and destroyed a home near Roganville, between Jasper and Kirbyville.
The volunteers of the Raoganville Fire Department were first to arrive on the scene at the single story structure located just east of Highway 96 and soon called for assistance from the Tri-Community Fire Department at Magnolia Springs.
Firemen battled the blaze both at the home and the nearby wooded area for sometime before bringing the fire under control and finally putting it out.
Jasper County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith, who is also a Roganville firefighter, said he was the first one the scene and arrived to find a pump house behind the home on fire. Smith said he had no way of knowing for sure, but it appeared that the fire began in or around an electrical box on the wall of the pump house.
Smith said no one was living in the home when the fire broke out and no injuries resulted from the incident.
