There were some tense moments on the Thursday when the members of the Kingdom Builders International Fellowship in the 1200 block of North Bowie Street heard something pop and smelled smoke. The members went out of the church to find fire in and around the air conditioning equipment in the rear of the building. The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after 6:00 and arrived almost immediately and went to work fighting the fire and with the help of a city electrician soon had the fire out. The fire was limited to the grass and straw around the air conditioning equipment and no damage resulted to the building. Firemen believe the fire began when a fan capacitor or some other component in the air conditioning equipment shorted out, sending hot sparks out onto the dry grass. No injury resulted from the incident.
