The Jasper Fire Department was dispatched out shortly after 5:00 Wednesday evening when it was reported that a contractor building a house in the 100 block of County Road 352 had set a pile of debris on fire and then left it unattended. Firefighters were able to put the fire out with just one brush truck which arrived first at the scene. On Thursday, Jasper Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Brandon Duckworth said an investigation is underway as he tries to determine the identity of the person who set the fire and then left it unattended. Burn bans have been in effect in every county in this region for several weeks as a heatwave and drought continue.
