An alert cashier and her quick actions along with a customer getting gas are being praised by the volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department following an incident that occurred on Sunday evening at the Murphy USA Gas Stop at the Walmart Store on Highway 190 West.
It all began shortly after 9:00, when a man was pumping gas into a car and a flame erupted around the pump nozzle and the fill port on a late model sedan.
Seeing what had happened, the unidentified cashier at the business immediately hit a remote control shutting the pumps down and then ran outside with a fire extinguisher in hand.
The driver of the car grabbed the extinguisher and put the fire out within a short time before firemen arrived at the scene. What sparked the blaze is not known. However, one firemen said the man fueling the car was reportedly talking on a cell phone when the fire occurred.
No damage or injuries occurred.
