A local resident was injured in the early hours of Friday morning, when the vehicle she was driving left the road and went into the edge of the woods on Highway 96, just south of Recreational Road 255.
The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department were dispatched to the location about 7 miles north of Jasper, shortly after 3:00, when it was reported that the single vehicle auto accident had occurred.
A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, who was on routine patrol at the time, said he spotted the vehicle driving erratically, going from one side of the highway to the other and was trying to stop it, when the crash occurred.
The officer said the 2011 Toyota Prius, which was traveling south on Highway 96, actually went into the median area of the Highway and came back across the roadway, before crashing into a tree.
The driver, who was later identified as 26 year old Jasmine Carnales of Jasper, was rescued from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for what was said to be non-life threatening injuries.
