The full details are not known, but Newton Police Chief Will Jackson has confirmed that a person was injured shortly after 2:00 on Monday afternoon in an accident involving a power line on Court Street.
Exactly what happened is not known, but Jackson said the accident occurred as a worker was performing a task on or near the power lines.
Newton Assistant City Manager Landon Kelly later said the accident occurred as a worker from a communications company or it's contractor was installing a service drop to a home. He said the worker was transported by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
EDITOR'S NOTE: KJAS ORIGINALLY REPORTED THAT THE WORKER WAS FROM THE CITY OF NEWTON'S ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT. HOWEVER, THAT WAS NOT CORRECT. THE MAN INJURED WAS WORKING FOR A COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY OR ONE OF IT'S CONTRACTORS.
