East Texas counties announce burn bans

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The counties of Henderson and Morris are under burn bans as of Tuesday. According to Henderson County’s announcement Tuesday morning, the 14-day ban was instated at the request of Fire Marshal Shane Redburg. The Keetch Byram Drought index, which scales up to 800, was at 591 Tuesday according to the county. Burn bans are recommended starting at 575 on the index. Renberg told commissioners there have been 20 “notable” grass fires in the past two weeks, which the post said required multiple fire departments to extinguish. The county noted that ignoring a burn ban is a class C misdemeanor with fines up to $500 Morris County’s release said that their ban is set to remain in place for seven days. The announcement was posted by County Judge Doug Reeder Tuesday morning.
