Early voting numbers show overwhelming majority casting GOP ballots

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Jasper County Clerks Office says a total of 5,095 votes were cast during early voting for the March Primary Election, and the overwhelming majority were for the Republican ticket. The clerks office says 4,118 GOP ballots were cast, while only 277 Democrat ballots were voted upon. The last time Jasper County voters were predominantly Democrat was in 1996 when the majority of votes that year went to President Bill Clinton in his successful re-lection bid. Since that time, nearly all local politicians in the county have flipped to the Republican ticket, as have the majority of voters.
