TEXARKANA, Texas – Accidental drownings claimed two lives at Wright Patman Lake on Saturday night.
According to the Liberty-Eylau Fire Department, a man and a teen drowned at the north shore of the lake.
Victor Lawson, 34, and Jayden Marshall, 15, were with a family group. Marshall attempted to swim from a sandbank when he began having difficulty swimming and called for help, according to Bowie County Sheriff Jeff Neal.
Lawson jumped into the water to help the struggling teen, but both of them went underwater.
Authorities were dispatched around 7:36 p.m.
According to the Bowie County Dive team, the bodies were recovered just after 9 p.m.
The lake is now open to normal operations.
