Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) was held last week at the Hart Memorial Airport in Many. Three instructors from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy taught the 3-day course to 26 Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies. The class consisted of defensive driving techniques, emergency cornering, braking, backing, a timed obstacle course, and safe ways to operate patrol units in emergency situations. One day of classroom training was held at the Cypress Bend Hotel Conference Center and two days of driving were held at the airport. Sheriff Mitchell thanks Airport Manager Miles Greer and Many Mayor Robert Hable for allowing the Sheriff’s Office to use the old north hanger apron for the course. Heat index values reached 110 degrees during the week, but everyone stuck it out and made the training class a success. Sheriff Mitchell also thanks LaFourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre for allowing his instructors to travel to Sabine Parish and train our Deputies.
