A driver was injured and now faces criminal charges after he crashed a late model Chevrolet pickup truck head-on into a utility pole. Jasper Police responded to the 300 block of West Houston Street at about 6:30 Thursday evening and officers said that the driver, a 52-year-old male, had a serious laceration to the side of his face.
Sergeant Jimmy Neel said the man had just left the driveway of the Oswald Apartments and had only traveled about 50 feet before striking the pole.
The man was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital by ambulance and police said a blood sample would be taken to determine his level of intoxication.
Meanwhile, officers were also investigating a family disturbance that he was allegedly involved in just prior to the accident.
The name of the man has not yet been released due to criminal charges pending.
