The Texas Department of Public Safety says an unrestrained young child was injured in a Thursday morning crash involving a distracted teenage driver. It happened shortly after 7:oo on Farm to Market Road m in the Seed Tick area. Beech Grove firefighters & First Responders arrived a short time later to find a 2018 Toyota Corolla off of the roadway with the front of the vehicle destroyed. Texas DPS Sergeant Shana Clark said that 18-year-old Lucia Rivera, of Jasper, was driving the car northbound when "...due to driver inattention, failed to drive in a single lane and traveled into the north ditch, where she struck a tree." Clark said Rivera was not injured, but her 6-year-old passenger was and was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital. Sergeant Clark said Rivera received a citation for Failure to Properly Secure a Child in a Safety Seat.
