The Texas Department of Public Safety has released details about a Wednesday afternoon crash involving two big-rigs on Highway 96 near the Neches River. It happened during the noon hour just inside the Hardin County line between Evadale and Silsbee.

According to Sergeant Stephanie Davis, “A truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling northbound on US 96 followed by a chip truck. The driver of the 18-wheeler slowed to make a right turn onto Tull Road when he was rear-ended by the chip truck. Upon impact, the chip truck rolled over onto the other commercial motor vehicle and both vehicles came to rest in the woods”.

Davis identified the driver of the 18-wheeler as 37-year-old Benjamin Gill, of Georgia, and the driver of the chip truck was Rickey Boatner, Jr., 42, of Jasper. Davis said both men had minor injuries, but both refused medical treatment.
