DeRidder Police say infant in very critical condition, accused abuser jailed

DeRidder Police say an infant is in very critical condition and a man accused of inflicting injuries upon the baby is in jail. According to police, on Thursday, January 12th shortly before 2:00 a.m. they responded to a hospital emergency room where a 4-week-old baby was being treated for injuries consistent with abuse. Police say the baby's injuries were so severe, the child was flown by medical helicopter to a larger hospital with more advanced care. Meanwhile, officers say the investigation led them to arrest 27-year-old Giovanni Beltran, of  DeRidder, and he has been charged with 2nd Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile and is being held in the Beauregard Parish Jail. Police have not disclosed what the relationship or connection is between the man and the baby.
