DeRidder historic building fire smolders, some roads reopen

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) - Firefighters continue to put out the flames at the historic “Friendly Corner” building in DeRidder Sunday morning.

The fire started Saturday afternoon in downtown DeRidder.

Mayor Michael Harris says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Harris also said the building is a total loss.

Viewer Beau Mount took this drone footage Saturday of the front of the building collapsing.

One firefighter rolled his ankle last night on some bricks but he is out of the hospital as of this morning.

Some roads have reopened including Washington, East First and Shirley streets.

The only street that is closed is North Jefferson Street as crews are cleaning the area around the building.

We talked to the Mayor about the historic significance of the building and he says it is the oldest in the town.
