DeRidder City Council met at 5:30 last night, Councilwoman Moore and Councilman Labue were absent. Ordinances introduced included
placing a mobile homes on Ollie Street and Batties Drive (Public hearing date September 27), placing a telecommunication tower by O 'Neals Feeder Supply on 1st street (public hearing date September 27) Increasing the Mayor's Salary – which had some debate and was discussed at length, In the end, it was introduced and will be discussed prior to the public hearing date of September 13. to enter into a contract with RC Paving for repairs to MLK Street and the Bryant Park Parking lot. ( PH 9/13) and, to enter into a contract with State wide electrical Contractors to fix lights at the West Park Ballfield (PH 9/13)
Emergency ordinances were adopted regarding code interpretation, creating a community center for youth in the old Beaucare Center by Billy Clark, youth pastor at Christway Church, and to acquire health insurance through Humana Group for active and retired city employees over the age of 65.
Public hearings were held granting authority to place a Class B Mobile Home on Cedar Street, and a Class A double wide mobile home by Home Nation on McDaniel Street, and amending the operating budget for revenues and expenditures.
There were 2 "no" votes, on the mobile home requests with the explanations being 1, that the planning and zoning committee's suggestion was to deny the requests, and that there has been community concern about moving mobile homes onto the lots.
