Deputy transported injured man due to no ambulances available

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Jasper County deputy had to transport an injured man in his patrol SUV to a hospital when no ambulances were available on Tuesday afternoon. It was a rollover crash that occurred shortly before 3:00 on Highway 96, just south of Kirbyville. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said 37-year-old Cameron Grzybowski, of New Hampshire, was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry northbound when the car hydroplaned out of control on the wet pavement after a downpour of rain. The car overturned off of the highway. Grzybowski’s injuries were described as serious, but non-life threatening. Jasper County is currently served by Allegiance EMS, but they are only contractually obligated to respond within Emergency Services District 4 in the north end of the county and Emergency Services District 1 in the southmost end of the county near Evadale and Buna.  Currently, there is no contract or provisions for ambulance service in the middle of Jasper County including Kirbyville.
