Deputy shot by woman when he arrived at supposed burglary in progress call

The Orange County Sheriff's Department says a deputy was shot by a woman when he arrived at the front door of her home during a report of a burglary in progress. Fortunately, the department says the bullet was stopped by hitting the very bottom of his bullet-proof vest and his belt. According to Sheriff Jimmy Lane Mooney and Captain Joey Jacobs, the incident occurred at about 9:00 Wednesday morning in the Orangefield Community. They said a dispatcher was on 911 with the woman's husband who was at another location, and he told dispatchers that his wife called him and claimed that she was struggling with an intruder in their home. Officials said when the deputy couldn't get the woman to answer the door, he kicked the door in, and at that point she fired a shot from a small caliber handgun. Captain Jacobs said deputies found no evidence that a burglary had occurred, or an intruder had been in the home to begin with. However, he said that investigators were looking at video from home security cameras to try and determine exactly what - if anything - had happened.
