Deputy puts out fire before firemen get there

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said Thursday that the quick actions of a Jasper County Sheriff's Deputy, who assisted a homeowner most likely saved a home from burning down. Gunter said the volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department were dispatched to the home on County Road 164 shortly after 1:00 on Thursday morning when it was reported that the structure was on fire. Gunter said that soon after his arrival as the scene, the deputy, who was first to arrive, grabbed a fire extinguisher and assisted the homeowner with bringing the blaze, which began in an electrical outlet under the porch under control. Firemen arrived to find the fire out and returned to the station. No injuries or major damage resulted from the incident. Gunter said the homeowner was advised to leave the electricty off until an electrician could check out the problem and correct it.
